What we fund
We fund a wide range of projects at the SVR. The money from passenger fares and from our shops, cafes and pubs covers the day-to-day running costs of the Railway. But it doesn't pay for the huge restoration costs of our locomotives, coaches, track and infrastructure, or for training our engineering apprentices.

How much do these items cost?
Up to £1,000,000 to overhaul and restore a steam locomotive
Up to £90,000 to restore a heritage coach
£1.397 million to restore the ageing Falling Sands viaduct
£21,000 a year to train an apprentice in the SVR's Heritage Apprenticeship Scheme (HAS)
