July 2010 - 7819 Hinton Manor Update
By Kev Cronin and Dave Evans
We had a phone call from ‘Railway Wheelsets’ in early July to inform us that the tyres for 7819 where on the way! This was a surprise as they were not supposed to be available to September/October time – great news! The tyres, as of late July, have arrived in the UK and will be brought to the SVR to be stored till 7819 comes home in 2012. They will arrive at the SVR in late August and will be stored in a safe place on the Railway. This is a great start, and is a fairly large piece of a very large jigsaw put in place. Many thanks go to John Robinson and Ian Walker at Bridgnorth for there help in ordering the tyres.
Attentions now turn to what to do next. A raffle is being organised for 7819 which will see monies raised to start getting raw materials for the boiler overhaul, and the re-newing of various cab fittings. More details will be made available on this once the tyres have been delivered and stored.
Many thanks to everyone supporting the comeback of 7819. To those that have donated or are about to donate! Please dig deep and help us get 7819 back in steam. 7819 was a flagship engine for the SVR in the 80's and 90's, and will be again in the years to come.
On the subject of fund raising. With thanks to Karl Jauncey of PSOV, a 53 minute DVD has been produced of 7819 at work on the mainline and SVR from 1987, following the loco up to it's last running days in 1993. These DVDs will be made available very soon and are being sold by Kev Cronin at a cost of £10. The DVD is excellent and shows 7819 doing what it did best, going well and sounding superb! Also featured on the DVD is a cab ride on 7819 from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster with Ray Tranter as the Driver. Fantastic scenes to see Ray driving "The Babby" along the line. If you wish to purchase a copy of the DVD then please send an email to the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Also you can e-mail this address if you have a question about 7819 - Kev will do his best to try and answer. But please be aware that as a train driver some of his shifts are less than friendly! Costs will go up a little if you want the DVD posting to you, to cover cost of postage and packaging, but all prices will be made available once DVD is available – which we expect will be ready by mid August. Watch this space for further details!
