Our Appeals

The money from passenger fares and from our shops, cafes and pubs covers the day-to-day running costs of the Railway. But it doesn't pay for the huge restoration costs of our locomotives, coaches, track and infrastructure, or for training our engineering apprentices.

It costs:

  • More than £500,000 to overhaul and restore a steam locomotive
  • Up to £90,000 to restore a heritage coach
  • £1.26 million to restore the ageing Falling Sands viaduct
  • £21,000 a year to train an apprentice in the SVR's Heritage Skills Training Academy

The Severn Valley Railway Charitable Trust is helping to find the money for these and many other essential projects.

The impact we've already made

The Charitable Trust was established in 2012, and already we've had a huge impact at the Railway. Amongst other things, we have contributed £300,000 to coach restoration, £300,000 to the Heritage Skills Training Academy, £150,000 to the restoration of 'Hagley Hall' locomotive and £120,000 to track re-laying.

How you can help

There's so much more that needs doing, and that's where you can help. Perhaps you would consider leaving a gift in your Will? Perhaps you would donate online today, or set up a regular donation?

However you choose to help, you will be playing a part in keeping this wonderful piece of living history alive for future generations to enjoy.
